About the role
The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and the natural environment. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work.
East Sussex Registration is a busy team delivering key services to the entire community. Every year across our Register Offices around the county we register thousands of births and deaths, as well as conducting hundreds of weddings and civil partnerships. We also facilitate Citizenship Ceremonies for hundreds of people and reproduce tens of thousands of certificates from our historic archives dating back to 1837. People come to us at major events in their lives and count on us to deliver what they need, so our teams make a big impact on local communities.
The role of Registrar is an exciting and varied one with responsibility to accurately and compassionately work with the public to create legal registrations of important life events.
A Registrar's typical day could include;
Conducting face to face and telephone interviews with the recently bereaved, new parents and those getting married or forming civil partnerships.
Public speaking, including facilitation of marriage, civil partnership and citizenship ceremonies.
Accurate data entry to create legal records and certificates.
Working as part of the team forming the first point of contact for ceremony bookings and administration.
Responding to customers either face to face, by telephone, online or by post.
Utilising opportunities to adopt a commercial approach so as to maximise income potential.
The successful candidates should be resilient, self-motivated and have an eye for detail. They should also have experience of working in a customer focused environment with an understanding of data entry processes. A history of public speaking is also desirable.
In your application you should use bullet points to explain how you meet the essential criteria of the role, including supporting examples.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
