The SABDEN Multi Academy Trust, based across East Sussex, is an aspirational and supportive Trust, aiming to create a warm, caring, stable, supportive environment in which all pupils and staff feel safe. We are three special schools, a secure unit, a large countywide alternative provision and a vocationally focussed Free School. We strive to discover success through learning, self-belief and achievement.  Pupils are empowered to take responsibility through a personalised curriculum supported by secure relationships with staff and strong partnerships with parents and carers.

St Mary’s School, as part of the SABDEN Multi Academy Trust, is a 'Good' special school in Horam. As one of three special schools within the Trust, we make provision for children and young people with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, all of whom have an Education Health Care plan (EHCP). We are ambitious in our drive to improve outcomes for all our learners. St Mary’s School offers the right candidate the opportunity to work in a lively, industrious environment.

We are seeking to appoint a strong classroom practitioner, from September 2021, to lead and deliver using a primary teaching approach. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ensuring all pupils make progress and succeed.  You will be an effective and enthusiastic practitioner who is passionate about teaching a variety of subjects. They will need to be highly organised and have the ability and resilience to motivate and engage learners with complex needs. The successful candidate will also have responsibility for the pastoral care of our lower school (Y4-7) and take on the Head of Year role.

Although experience of working in Special Education is not essential for this post, you should be able to demonstrate an approach to curriculum delivery that is exciting and innovative, while also being sensitive to the needs of our pupils.

The successful candidate will be joining a Trust and school that continues to be ambitious in its drive to improve outcomes for our pupils. You will join a highly dedicated and professional staff team and be part of a supportive working and learning environment, where your professional development is highly valued.

We strongly encourage you to visit our school and if you would like to see us prior to submitting an application please contact Jane Woodfine, School Secretary, to arrange a visit.  Alternatively, if you wish to have an informal discussion with Paul Murphy, Principal, this can also be arranged.  Please contact us on 01425 812278 or by email on office.sm@sabden.org.uk
