About us

East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding.  Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy.  Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.

Wild East Devon is responsible for managing twelve local nature reserves, running an environmental education service and supporting an ever-growing volunteer network, as well as delivering an extensive public events programme.

About the role

Working throughout the award-winning Seaton Wetlands nature reserve complex, you will develop and host educational events and visitor engagement activities, and work with volunteers, to support the management of the site.  You will undertake wildlife identification, surveying & monitoring in order to inform visitor information whilst also carrying out general duties associated with maintenance of the site and habitat systems.  Your dedication and enthusiasm will ensure excellence in wetland habitat quality and enhanced visitor experiences whilst protecting the environment, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Axe Estuary.

About you

You will hold a relevant professional qualification at degree level or have equivalent experience which gives you a sound understanding of ecology and the management of wetland habitats.  IT literate and adept of creating engaging online content you will also have experience of working with volunteers and visitors in small groups to deliver activities and educational programmes.  Qualified in the use of chainsaws and brush cutters, you will also have practical skills in carrying out general repairs and experience of site based management on nature reserves.

A natural communicator, your passion for the natural environment, respect for individuals and desire to go the extra mile will drive your enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge and skills with others to deliver a fantastic visitor experience.

Qualifications in first aid and the use of pesticides would be a distinct advantage, as would experience of driving 4x4’s off-road and making funding applications or delivering funded projects.
