Contract: Fixed Term/Secondment for 9 months (may be extended to 12 months)
An exciting opportunity has become available in the Blaenau Gwent Disability Team for a Full Time Social Worker on either a fixed term/secondment basis. The post is for 9 months initially, however this may be extended to 12 months. For internal applicants you will need to have gained permission from you line manager to apply for this position.
This post can also be offered as a secondment opportunity. Before applying for this as a secondment opportunity, candidates should seek approval to be released from their current post by their Line Manager. Secondments are available to permanent staff of the Authority only.
The team is unique in that it supports children and adults with a disability aged 0-25 and their families/carers. A key role of the team is to support young people transitioning to adulthood and to work in partnership with other agencies to promote a smooth transition. Other roles in addition to Social Workers and Senior Practitioners in the team include Support Workers, a Children’s OT and a Community Connector.
Key responsibilities of the team include assessment and care and support planning for children and adults in need of care and support and also safeguarding children and adults who are at risk/suffering abuse/harm.
The ethos of the team is to support children, young people and adults with a Disability (0-25) and their families/carers to identify and work towards achieving their identified outcomes and to become as independent as possible. This is achieved from practicing from a strengths and outcome focused approach which is well embedded within the team.
Workers in the team hold a mixed case load across the age range of 0-25 years of age and are passionate and committed to improving outcomes for all those they support. Workers in the team have a wide range of skills, knowledge and experiences of working across the age range and they are keen and willing to welcome and support new workers who share their passion for supporting children and adults with a disability and their families/carers. Blaenau Gwent Disability Team is a strong, supportive work environment with a collaborative team ethos.
All workers in the team have regular formal supervision at least once a month. The team also has regular, at least monthly, group supervision, which provides the opportunity for workers to reflect on cases within a safe supportive space. The team also uses this time to explore different direct work tools and theories to inform interventions and share good practice.
Applications are welcome from Qualified Social Workers and those due to qualify (pending qualification). If you considering submitting an application for this post, you do not necessarily need to have experience across the age range (children’s and adults), however you must have a desire to develop your practice as there is an expectation that all workers in the team will have a mixed caseload working with both children and young people 18-25.
In terms of career development, the post is an excellent opportunity to learn and develop and gain experience in terms of working with children and adults with a disability across the age range.
The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.
