About the role
Do you relish a challenge? Are you inquisitive, committed and able to inspire colleagues? Could you use your experience of data management and knowledge of business intelligence tools and techniques to help put data at the heart of public service planning at East Sussex County Council? If so, then we want to hear from you!
We are looking for an innovative, forward-thinking person to help deliver the vision for data driven insights at East Sussex County Council.
The ongoing support of report development and statutory returns will need demonstrable experience with Microsoft Visual Studio and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Our implementation of Tableau software and the associated support of a growing internal user community is a key foundation to support the distributed performance, insight and research capabilities within the council. Experience of Tableau is desirable but not essential.
As a member of the IT & Digital Information Management Team, you will contribute to the delivery of the team’s work programme – helping to drive change through improvements in data literacy and culture within the wider organisation. The adoption of a self-service analytics approach will underpin this programme.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience and understanding of data management best practice;
- Experience of working with Microsoft SQL Server Databases, strong SQL skills and creating reporting solutions;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills both written and verbal;
- Excellent negotiating skills, ability to influence and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders;
- The ability to work effectively, with a high degree of autonomy if required; and
- The confidence to challenge the status quo and develop creative solutions to complex problems.
The post is advertised as full time (37 hours over five days a week). However, job-share applications and other flexible working needs will happily be considered. The contractual base for the post is County Hall, Lewes but for the foreseeable future increased working from home will be necessary. A laptop will be provided with the role.
This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). For further information about what is required in this process please go to http://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check. Please note that we require evidence of an overseas police check if you have lived or worked abroad.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
