About the role
As part of a small specialist team, you will have strong skills and experience in supporting children and young people with severe learning disabilities, who can exhibit anti-social, difficult and dangerous behaviours.
Working intensively with families, carers and the multidisciplinary team around the child, you will aim to improve the wellbeing of the child and so decrease their need to use negative behaviours to get their needs met. You will also work closely with colleagues in Children’s Disabilities Care Homes and other services to support behavioural approaches and risk management; including delivering training in positive behaviour approaches and restrictive physical intervention.
As part of an existing team of experienced staff, you will work alongside families and professionals in drawing up and delivering bespoke behaviour plans. This will involve behaviour analysis, skills teaching and modelling approaches with families and carers. You will work flexibly, often out of hours so that you can be there when behaviours are happening.
As a skilled practitioner, you will have experience of working with highly complex children and their families and the confidence to help those with behavioural concerns. As well as a genuine interest in this area, you will also bring sound observation and evaluation skills and the ability to engage effectively with children and young people who may have barriers to communication.
The team is based in Eastbourne but works dynamically across the whole of the county so you will be expected to travel. The role is physically demanding and requires a flexible and positive approach.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
