Horsham District Council are looking for an enthusiastic and environmentally conscious individual to support the Waste & Recycling Team in our new Reuse Initiative Trial for furniture. This exciting new project will provide an outlet for members of the public to donate unwanted items of furniture to keep these items in circulation for longer and save them going to waste. This role will support in the running of the drop-off outlet as well as several planned sales events via pop-up shops to sell the goods throughout the trial.

As a Reuse Initiative Support Officeryou will manage the day-to-day running of the drop-off point, ensuring the facility is equipped and overseeing staff rotas, engaging with the general public, being a champion of reuse and the green agenda. You will provide assistance to the general public in unloading furniture as well as managing storage at the facility, preparing items for reuse and complete administrative procedures including checking forms according to HDC procedures.

Working on Saturdays will be required to cover the opening hours of the drop-off location.

During several planned sales events (open approximately one week every quarter) you will oversee the running of the pop-up shop, conduct sales, arrange deliveries as well as managing sales staff and price points to ensure maximum sales are achieved.

To succeed as the Reuse Initiative Support Officer, ability to provide a high level of customer service is essential. You will be required to communicate with a wide range of people from different backgrounds. You will need to be able to conduct heavy lifting with assistance, in accordance with manual handling procedures (training to be provided). Ability to work as part of a team and your own initiative is required as well as being a competent IT user. Retail experience and an interest in recycling and reuse is desirable.
