About the role

As part of the development of our Attendance offer to schools, we are looking to appoint a Behaviour and Attendance Support Practitioner with a focus on securing good school attendance for children and young people with autism.

You will have strong skills and experience in supporting CYP with autism and their families, breaking down barriers to accessing full time education. While this role is focussed on attendance for CYP with autism, you will be appointed as a general Behaviour and Attendance Support Practitioner so may be required to carry out other elements of this role during your employment in this post. The role of Behaviour and Attendance Support Practitioner is outlined below.

Working directly with children, their families and schools, you’ll conduct assessments and provide support to address concerns in relation to poor behaviour and attendance at school.

As part of an existing team of experienced staff, you will work alongside professionals in drawing up and delivering bespoke packages of support. This will involve mentoring the pupil, as well as working with the family and school to establish positive, effective working relationships that lead to a greater impact in improving positive attendance/behavioural outcomes for children and young people and engagement and learning.

As a skilled practitioner, you will have experience of working within an educational setting with children and their families and the confidence to help those with behavioural and/or attendance problems. As well as a genuine interest in this area, you’ll also bring sound observation and evaluation skills and the ability to engage effectively with children and young people.

The post will be based at Ocean House in Hastings. This post is part of the Autism and Anxiety team as outlined in the addendum on the job description.
