East Sussex Children’s Services

East Sussex Children’s Services is an Ofsted graded outstanding Local Authority.   This is not an easy accomplishment and is the result of many factors including: recruiting the right people; providing our workforce with the right resources and practice development opportunities; and by developing really clear guidance, policy and strategy.   This is where the Policy and Service Development manager role is key.  By providing accessible, relevant policy and strategy you will ensure that the workforce has absolute clarity regarding their roles and responsibilities.  Through your ability to bring guidance and strategy alive practitioners and managers will know how policies actually help to make a difference for our children and families.

About you

You will be a resourceful, passionate and motivated individual who has experience of working in Children’s Services with a history of involvement in policy and practice development.

You will be comfortable working alongside senior managers, as well as frontline staff, supporting them to create policies that are relevant, helpful and proportionate.  Not only will you be able to collate, analyse and synthesise information in a readable manner, you will also be skilled at obtaining and sharing information with others.  You will understand your audience, whether that is council members or foster carers, and this understanding will inform your written work.

You will have a degree in social work, social sciences, social policy, psychology, education or similar and/ or a qualification in social and public policy.

We welcome applications from all sections of our community and for this post we particularly encourage applications from people of Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds.

Our support

Our progressive development programme will enable you to further develop your expertise in children’s services and this will be supported through induction, reflective supervision, mentoring,  and bespoke training. We want to recruit those that are already motivated and have the skills and knowledge to make a difference for our workforce.  But we don’t expect you to sit on your laurels, the kind of people attracted to this role will constantly be wanting to learn and develop and maximise the many opportunities working for ESCC provides.
