Halton is a small unitary authority covering the towns of Runcorn and Widnes, with great transport links to the Liverpool city region, Cheshire and Manchester.  Our recent Ofsted inspection in March 2020 identified that we have effective early intervention services, a strengthened initial response to children needing help and protection and strong arrangements to tackle extra-familial risk.

We are looking for newly qualified and experienced Social Workers to join our Child in Need division where our frontline operational teams are responsible for assessing and supporting families to meet the needs of children.   You will be supporting children and families via child in need or child protection processes, as well as working closely with partner agencies to support families to achieve change.  We are working to embed systemic practice and welcome applications from workers who have experience in this area of practice.

We are committed to supporting social workers at each stage of their career – for our newly qualified social workers this will mean access to our nurturing ASYE programme which includes a protected caseload, dedicated time for study and additional training opportunities which take in to consideration your individual learning and development needs.   Our Practice Manager for Social Work Professional Development will support you throughout the ASYE programme and beyond.  If you would like further information about our ASYE programme please contact Samantha Madden at Samantha.Madden@halton.gov.uk

For experienced workers we offer the opportunity for progression and continued professional development which includes progression up to advanced practitioner. We have strong links to our local Universities as we are part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Social Work Teaching Partnership. We offer specialist training for our workforce and membership of Research in Practice.  We also offer an advanced practitioner post dependant on the level of qualifications applicants have.

To apply you must be a qualified social worker, or due to qualify within 3 months of the advert closing date.  Ideally we are looking for Social Workers with post qualifying experience within a statutory children’s social care setting, along with knowledge and understanding of working with the most vulnerable children in need who require intensive support and safeguarding.  We also welcome applications from newly qualified social workers who may have relevant experience from placement opportunities or previous roles.

Here at Halton we are committed to supporting Social Workers to achieve their aspirations and you will have real opportunities for further promotion and training as the Council is keen to develop advanced practitioners and also future leaders.  For those who wish to explore a pathway in to management, we provide opportunities to gain management qualifications.  Alongside the comprehensive training and support package we also offer up to 33 days holiday; a flexible working week and free parking.  Further details about our employee benefits can be found at https://jobs.haltonbc.info/working-in-halton/

Please note this post is subject to Enhanced DBS Disclosure and Social Work England Registration

If you are considering applying and would like to discuss the excellent opportunities within Halton we would really like to hear from you, please contact  Damien Fitzsimmons on Damien.Fitzsimmons@halton.gov.uk

Interviews are scheduled to take place on the 19th and 20th April 2021

Please note interviews will be held in accordance with current Government social distancing measures and carried out via Skype video conferencing.

The role will involve regular travel across the borough and sometimes further afield. Therefore, the post holder must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle. Where necessary, reasonable adjustments will be made in accordance with the Equality Act.
