About the role

When it comes to Children’s Services we have an enviable reputation. Our Children’s Services are rated as the highest performing Authority in the South East and an achievement like that means that children all across East Sussex are really benefiting. Our Fostering Service is no exception to this having proportionally significantly more children placed with in-house foster carers than the national average. This is achieved by having an excellent integrated support services for our looked after children and foster carers.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Practice Manager who will be part of a management team whose responsibilities include the running of a placement support service, an extensive supported lodgings provision, a specialist placement scheme, a placement finding service (in house and external), a recruitment and retention team and the oversight of supervision and support of nearly 300 in house fostering households.

The successful applicant will be capable of acting within and negotiating all areas of responsibility allocated to the management team. Although they will have primary responsibility for one element of the service, it would be expected that they can cover and support other parts of the Fostering Service as and when required.

ESCC’s Fostering service has consistently delivered an innovative and forward-thinking initiatives underpinned by national policy. The successful candidate will also have strong multi-agency working skills, some experience of the supervision of staff, be a confident motivator, negotiator and hold a professional social work qualification.

Most of all we are looking for a candidate who can take advantage of East Sussex’s culture of taking services to the next level to achieve the best outcomes for its young people.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
