About the role
Would you like to make a difference to a person's life?
Are you looking for something different but worried you don't have the right skills?
Whether you have previously worked with people with Learning Disabilities or are looking for a complete change of career, we believe that everyone has something to offer the people we support. Life skills, the right attitude and a genuine desire to help people to improve their lives are the most important characteristics of a senior support worker.
Your core values are what interests us about you the most. We support you to learn the necessary skills as you will receive excellent training opportunities, a thorough induction and supervision as part of our commitment to you.
The role will be full of variety, with no two days the same.
Grangemead is a countywide respite and emergency service for adults with Learning Disabilities in Hailsham, which was refurbished to a high standard offering a hotel style service. All bedrooms have en suite facilities. We have interactive sensory equipment and the latest in assistive technology to enhance the experience of guests staying with us.
The service provides a fun holiday experience for long and short respite stays where we promote life skills, independence, community presence and opportunities to meet new friends.
The emergency service provides accommodation to individuals who are experiencing a difficult time in their lives e.g. safeguarding, homeless, illness, death or end of placement with carers.
This rewarding role would require successful candidates to provide both emotional and physical support for people staying in respite or emergency services who may be in distress or displaying behaviours that challenge.
As a senior support worker you would be responsible for leading a team of staff and providing support via line management. All support staff would be allocated as a keyworker to guests and would be responsible for writing, updating and maintaining support plans and risk assessments to an excellent standard.
A senior support worker would need to demonstrate effective shift planning and management, and consider the health and safety for the guests, staff and building at all times.
Coronavirus has been a key learning experience for all services. Senior support workers would need to have a positive and flexible attitude to working in Adult Social Care. All staff would be required to work across Learning Disability Services when required.
This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). For further information about what is required in this process please go to http://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check. Please note that we require evidence of an overseas police check if you have lived or worked abroad.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
