ENVIRONMENT AND HOUSING SERVICES
TEMPORARY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (up to 20 months) – 37 hours per week
Grade G - £32,234 to £35,745
A temporary, externally funded post has arisen to provide support in the council’s Food Health and Safety team. This full time position is expected to continue for up to 20 months.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual qualified to Diploma or Degree level in Environmental Health (or equivalent). This must include holding the relevant Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or equivalent.
Due to service demands our preference is to appoint an officer with experience in food safety and health and safety at work if possible. However we would also welcome applications from less experienced officers that are EHRB registered (or equivalent).
Some of the key responsibilities of the role include
- Proactive and reactive food hygiene, health & safety interventions and initiating statutory action where necessary.
- Responding to requests for service.
- Supporting other officers undertaking enforcement duties
- Carry out investigations and controls in relation to infectious disease.
- You may also be required to undertake inspections and or licence visits with regards to skin piercing and Animal Welfare.
You will be an excellent communicator with a strong commitment to excellent customer service and be able to deal effectively with difficult situations achieving positive outcomes. A commitment to team working is paramount to this post as is the requirement and ability to analyse complex information and make informed decisions with often conflicting demands.
This is a demanding job with a varied workload and a requirement to meet strict deadlines with a risk based approach, therefore a high level of self-motivation and the ability to take the lead and make decisions on specific pieces of work are essential qualities.
