About the role
Based at ESFRS HQ, Lewes
37 hours per week, over 5 days
We are looking to recruit a Hydrant Technician to be part of the Operational Response and Resilience team. The daily work will commence from the successful candidate’s local Fire Station within ESFRS, but with an occasional requirement to attend meetings and work from Service Headquarters. This role also requires travel throughout East Sussex and Brighton & Hove, with use of a Service vehicle during office hours to carry out the role.
You will locate, test and, where necessary, perform routine maintenance on hydrants and input and maintain detailed computer records to ensure the Fire & Rescue Service has an adequate supply of water for firefighting purposes, in line with ESFRS statutory duties, and a maintained and up-to-date hydrant management system.
As the successful candidate you will possess good communication skills and basic computing skills to include the use of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook. Ideally you will have an understanding of water supplies and a knowledge of hydrant construction and testing, or similar maintenance activities and you will receive training on the “Safety at Street Works and Road Works – A Code of Practice”. You will also have proven ability to work alone and manage your own time and work. You must hold a current full UK manual driving licence.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
