Could you support members of the community to complete the Census Survey online?  We are recruiting a Census Support Advisor to provide one-to-one support in our community centres.  You will be based at our Census Support Centres which will be based at East Oxford Community Centre. You will be responsible for greeting members of the public who come to the Centre, explaining the purpose of the Census and providing one to one support to fill out the Census questionnaire as needed.  You will complete a count of individuals using the service as well as log any incidents or complaints customers may have. Prior to being in post there is a requirement to undertake some online training (about 3-4 hours) and you will be able to claim back those hours once you start in post.

The Census is a ten yearly compulsory survey that gives the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. The information collected from the Census helps inform local authorities and government about demands for vital public services such as schools, hospitals, GP services and social care provisions.

The next Census day is 21st March 2021 and from early March households will receive a letter in the post giving them details of how to take part in this mandatory survey.  Next year’s Census will differ from previous ones in that the aim is for most people to fill it out online rather than on paper. Residents will therefore receive by post a unique access code, inviting them to complete the survey online, although paper questionnaires are available on request.

It is recognised that some people may need support in order to fill out their Census questionnaire online and as such two Census Support Centres are being set up in Oxford (one in Rose Hill and one in East Oxford). These are places where members of the public will be able to go and get access to the internet and receive guidance and support from advisors at these centres in order fill out their Census questionnaire.  This role will therefore require you to work one evening a week and one day at the weekend every other weekend. Exact times and days can be discussed. You will also be required to work both days on the Census Day weekend – 20th and 21st March 2021.

Please note: these positions are subject to what government guidelines and lockdown restrictions are in place at the time which determines whether or not the Census Support Centres can be open.
