A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for a Qualified Social Worker to join the Blaenau Gwent Disability Team.  The team is unique in that it supports children with a disability and adults with a learning disability and their families/carers.  A key role of the team is to support young people transitioning to adulthood and to work in partnership with other agencies to promote a smooth transition.

The team is integrated with the Community Adult Learning Disability Health Team.  Other roles in addition to Social Workers and Senior Practitioners in the team include Support Workers, a Children’s OT and a Community Connector.

Key responsibilities of the team include assessment and care and support planning for children and adults in need of care and support and also safeguarding children and adults who are at risk/suffering abuse/harm.

The ethos of the team is to support children, young people and adults with a learning disability and their families/carers to identify and work towards achieving their identified outcomes and to be as independent as possible.  This is achieved from practicing from a strengths and outcome focused approach which is well embedded across the team.

Workers in the team hold a mixed case load across the age range and are passionate and committed to improving outcomes for all those they support.  Workers in the team have a wide range of skills, knowledge and experiences of working across the age range and they are keen and willing to welcome and support new workers who share their passion for supporting children and adults with a disability and their families/carers.  Blaenau Gwent Disability Team is a strong, supportive work environment with a collaborative team ethos.

All workers in the team have regular, formal supervision, at least once a month.  The team also has regular, at least monthly, group supervision, which provides the opportunity for workers to reflect on cases within a safe supportive space.  The team also uses this time to explore different direct work tools and theories to inform interventions and share good practice.

Applications are welcome from Qualified Social Workers and those due to qualify (pending qualification).  If you are considering submitting an application for this post, you do not necessarily need to have experience across the age range, however you must have a desire to develop your practice as there is an expectation that all new workers in the team will have a mixed caseload.

In terms of career development, the post is an excellent opportunity to learn and develop and gain experience in terms of working with children and adults with a disability across the age range.

The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The post holder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
