In Surrey, the Children Single Point of Access (CSPA) is the umbrella term used to describe the front door to Surrey County Council services for children. The Early Help Hub (EHH) and Multi-Agency Partnership (MAP) sit at the heart of our operational frontline services and ensure that children and families are supported by directing, monitoring and coordinating requests for support across our four quadrants to ensure family’s needs are met by appropriate resources provided by Surrey County Council, our partners and the voluntary and community sector.
As the Domestic Abuse Advisor for the CSPA you will provide practical and emotional frontline support, advice and guidance to advisors, partners and victims of domestic abuse to enable them to live safely. Typical tasks may include but will not be limited to, safety planning to allow those experiencing domestic abuse to access and maintain safe accommodation, look at the impact of domestic abuse on their children, provide advice, deliver learning sets to enhance practice in relation to domestic abuse and guidance via the CP Consultation Line and directly to advisors and practitioners. You will be required to ensure case records are accurately maintained in line with procedural and legislative requirements.
Working closely with CSPA colleagues and managers, as well as other adult's specialist workers you will support the planning, running and review of cases within the CSPA, contributing to case discussions and exchanging information where appropriate. You will liaise with a broad network of partners such as probation, mental health services, housing, and the voluntary sector to ensure that a multi-agency approach to the way that cases are managed, and the right outcome is secured for families.
This role will require you to be able to quickly establish effective relationships with colleagues, partners, children and families, working respectfully in a way which encourages them to recognise what help they require and empowering them to develop strategies to support their needs. You will be operating in sometimes challenging and emotionally charged situations therefore you must have the ability to communicate clearly, remain calm under pressure and deal with each request confidentially, applying a discreet and sensitive approach to all that you do.
To be shortlisted for this role you will:
- A relevant qualification at Level 4 such as social work, health, justice etc
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience of working with children and families preferably within a domestic abuse context, and within a ‘front door’
- Proven ability to apply and understand relevant legislation affecting working with children, including the Children Act (1989) and the Children and Families Act 2014 and provide advice
- Proven experience of using resources, tools and services to support children and their families who are victims of domestic abuse to help protect them from harm and experience of providing practical help
- Experience of group supervision and learning/development approaches
- Knowledge and experience of using Motivational Interviewing to strengthen families or ability to learn
- Able to undertake rostered office duty to deal with urgent cases or queries
- Willingness and ability to work/travel across and beyond the county boundary
- Have proven IT skills
