This role is vital providing support for some of the Isle of Wight’s most vulnerable children. They all have additional educational needs and some will have medical needs. You will be trained to ensure a safe journey enables each accompanied child to arrive in school willing and able to learn. The service is highly valued by children, families and schools. To do your role effectively you will:

 

  • deliver each day a safe journey between home and school for the children being accompanied on transport,
  • as needed, advise the Transport Service of any operational issues i.e. late, unsafe transport to enable resolution of problems,
  • make the right decisions on how to respond to incidents that may occur on the transport including; dealing with extremely challenging behaviour, accidents, illness and medical conditions,
  • take responsibility for personal health & safety and that of other passengers and report any transport/safety issues to SEN transport team to enable appropriate action to be taken,
  • support the travelling child during the journey by showing enhanced empathy and understanding of children with special educational needs, and work effectively with the driver to provide a valued service to children, families and schools on behalf of IWC.

The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
