About The Role
Our Property & Facilitates Management (FM) Team have an exciting new opportunity for a Principal Building Surveyor who will lead the Property & FM Team to provide the highest quality reactive, planned maintenance and servicing, health & safety compliance, capital investment and facilities management provision to the Council’s corporate property portfolio comprising over 400 buildings. Buildings are held both for operational purposes and let to tenants to generate a commercial return and the team looks after a variety of buildings comprising leisure centres, swimming pools, corporate offices, depots, public conveniences, theatres, kiosks, cafes and a variety of other buildings.
You’ll lead the Property & FM Team, acting as the Council’s Principal in the professional area of building surveying and as a key advisor on property construction, compliance and standards for asset management along with providing and maintaining high levels of professional standards within the Team through coordination, performance management, training, development and recruitment.

You’ll be professionally qualified, have a good working knowledge in the Property & FM area of work with a good knowledge of building construction and contract management along with an excellent working knowledge of health and safety legislation. You’ll also have good team management / leadership skills, being able to apply all of this to ensuring that buildings are managed and maintained to the highest possible standards, are safe and that opportunities for investment and development are taken forward.
Excellent IT skills are essential to this role, as are good communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships. You’ll also need good attention to detail and be able to effectively manage competing priorities to ensure projects and activities are managed in a timely manner.
