An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Housing Options Service and applicants are invited for this challenging role in a very busy team.
Working within the Housing Options Team based in Magdalen House (currently working remotely) and, uniquely, working closely with colleagues in JobCentrePlus across Sefton to prevent people from becoming homeless. This is a joint initiative between Sefton Council and the Department of Work and Pensions.
Your role will require you to undertake 1:1 initial assessment to identify the issues relating to housing and homelessness. This will help you in producing a tailored action plan for each customer. You will be required to advocate on the customer’s behalf, providing support to prevent homelessness. You will also be required to provide advocacy support to retain employment when applicable/appropriate.
You will be expected to provide support to identify skills and recognise transferable skills to help move people into employment, as well as identify and signpost to appropriate training opportunities.
Earlier intervention and the successful resolution of clients housing issues are vital to prevent and resolve homelessness.
The role is very much “customer focused, front line housing advice” and as such you must have excellent communication skills and be able to listen to and interpret information relayed to you in order to give accurate advice and assistance.
The ability to establish links and effectively liaise with housing providers and partner agencies will be essential. Knowledge of Housing Law, Welfare and Housing Benefits and experience of helping people progress to work would be an advantage.
You will be well supported by a Team Leader and other team members as well as colleagues from other departments.
