Brighton & Hove’s Public Health department are looking to recruit a part-time Active for Life Manager (22 hours a week) within the Healthy Lifestyles Team. The successful candidate will develop and manage physical activity interventions for children and young people in a range of settings and care pathways, and this involves identifying new delivery partnerships and the management of existing partnerships.

About the role

  • The role holder will be working to increase the number of people in the city meeting the Chief Medical Officers guidelines for physical activity, with the aim of reducing health inequalities and improving wellbeing. This will be achieved by leading, developing and implementing a strategic, multi-agency life course approach to delivering interventions.
  • Active for Life Managers will ensure that the programmes they lead and manage are strategically integrated, and complimentary to, wider programmes of work to improve health and wellbeing in the City such as the Healthy Lifestyles single point of contact and other commissioned services and healthcare pathways.
  • The Active for Life Manager will work with the Healthy Lifestyles Managers to identify strategic priorities for physical activity that respond to identified priorities, needs assessments and local and national intelligence.
  • Active for Life Manager will develop local capacity and community assets, and work to ensure that the service is accessible and meets the needs of diverse communities in Brighton & Hove to address physical activity-related health inequalities.

Building upon the existing Brighton & Hove Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2019-2030, The Healthy Lifestyles Team aim to deliver their Health Improvement strategy and plan by supporting local people to maintain and improve their health and wellbeing, both during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond, reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes in the city. The ideal candidate will be experienced in leading, developing and implementing a multi-agency life course approach to physical activity interventions, understand inequalities in the city and the impact these have on health outcomes.

They will have proven management and leadership skills, and a strong record of engaging with communities who are most at risk of poorer health outcomes. 

The Active for Life manager will be able to work mainly from home as part of the Covid- 19 recovery, however, will need to be able to work in Bartholomew House and King Alfred Leisure Centre Office on agreed days in the future. The manager will also be required to attend forums, meetings, events, activity sessions and training in a variety of different settings and locations.

The post holder will be required to attend or deliver citywide events or activity sessions at different locations.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only
