Landscape Officer

Huntingdon (site based and some home working available)

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high quality services to our communities, residents and businesses and this means we need to employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people. Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful and historic district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking Local Authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision making.

With demonstrable knowledge of and experience in providing advice on landscape matters, the Landscape Officer will help to create, protect and enhance the District’s environment through the provision of specialist technical advice.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with good interpersonal skills who will have a degree or similar in a landscape related discipline and with relevant experience of providing specialist landscape advice in relation to all scales of development proposals.

Working as part of a busy and supportive team you will provide appropriate specialist input into the assessment of development proposals including landscape and visual impact assessments. Experience of dealing with the complex landscape issues associated with large infrastructure projects and large housing schemes would be particularly beneficial.

You will need to have the confidence, skill and expertise to negotiate with applicants to secure high quality landscape schemes. You must be able to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing with applicants, colleagues, Authority Members and local communities on landscape matters.

The ability to organise your workload and work independently in the face of competing priorities is an essential requirement, together with well developed IT and record-keeping skills.

This role will require you to be present at site visits and you must be comfortable working in various locations as well as being partly office based. Currently you are able to work from home when covering the administrative part of this role but you must possess a valid UK driving licence in order to attend any site visits around Huntingdonshire as required.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising) all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.
