Are you an experienced practitioner who has extensive knowledge and experience of working with disabled children and young people particularly those who have complex health needs, Autism and behaviour that challenges their carers?

Halton’s Disabled Children Service has a small team of enthusiastic and dedicated workers who are committed to improving the lives of disabled children and their families. We are looking for someone who shares that commitment to join our leadership team to coordinate and develop the level 2 short breaks service. You will be responsible for the supervision of the Early Help Family Workers, supporting their development but also providing appropriate challenge and clear direction when required.

You will work with Managers, Commissioners, Carers and Young people to continue to develop the Short Breaks Services and will represent the team on multi agency groups for SEND and Early Intervention Services. You will chair meetings, develop team plans and take the lead for new projects and service developments. You will work closely with Staff in the Locality Teams and Children Centres to ensure that families can access holistic support to enable them to have an improved quality of life within their communities.

You must have a working knowledge of relevant government legislation, guidance and local procedures relating to disabled children, their carers and safeguarding. You should have experience of working collaboratively with colleagues from other organisations, including social care, health, education, commissioned services and the voluntary sector.

You must have excellent communication skills including experience of using alternative communication systems such as PECS, Makaton, social stories etc. You must have experience in supporting young people who have a learning disability and challenging behaviour to provide advice and guidance to families and professionals.

You will need to be confident and resilient, creative and caring. You must be organised and be able to prioritise your work and that of the team.  In return, you will receive regular high quality supervision & support, wide ranging training opportunities and benefit from the existing knowledge and professionalism of your peers.

The Disabled Children Service works with families living in all areas of Halton and so you will have access to an office base in both localities. You will be required to travel to visit families in their own homes and attend meetings.

To apply for this post you must be qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Social Care or equivalent and a minimum of 3 GCSE’s or equivalent in Grade C or above which includes Maths and English.
