About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a much loved and diverse Catholic Primary School community, set in the picturesque seaside town of Eastbourne along the sunshine coast, which nestles at the foot of the South Downs National Park with good road & rail links to London & the surrounding areas.

The Governors welcome applications for the post of SENDCo. We seek to appoint a truly outstanding & motivated individual to develop and lead, alongside the current part-time SENDCo, the School’s Special Educational Needs provision.

St Thomas a Becket is a 2 form entry Primary School in the Eastbourne Deanery of The Diocese of Arundel & Brighton. We have a large catchment area extending to include Polegate & Hailsham families to the north and Pevensey & Stone Cross to the east. We currently have 471 pupils on roll. 17.4% of our children are on our register with SEND needs (7 of which have EHCPs with a further 3 applications) and 11.4% of our children are in receipt of Pupil Premium. We are a diverse community with 53.9% of our children who come from families where English is spoken as an Additional Language with 37 languages spoken. St Thomas a Becket is a feeder School to the outstanding St. Richard’s Catholic College in Bexhill-on-Sea 12 miles away.

We are looking for a SENDCo who will:

  • Be committed to the Catholic ethos of our School (but does not have to be a practicing Catholic)
  • Strive to be an active member of the SLT and whole school team
  • Inspire, lead and continue developing staff to reach their full potential

In return we can offer:

  • A warm welcoming School community
  • Pupils who are welcoming, polite, confident, with an excellent attitude to learning
  • A strong team of talented staff open to ideas and committed to driving improvement in our School and Community.
  • A Board of Governors and Senior Leadership team who will support you as you strive to innovate, improve, encourage and engage.

Visits to the School are warmly welcomed and encouraged – these can be held after school and at a social distance. Please contact The Bursar, Edwina Lucani on 01323 737221 to arrange a mutually convenient time to visit.

Interviews Friday 11 December 2020 .
