An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced health and safety advisor to support, advise and deliver excellent services across the Children, Families, Lifelong Learning and Culture Directorate.

The role is based within the Strategic Risk Management team, which supports the work of children’s services, schools, libraries, adult education and cultural services. We are entering an exciting time, streamlining and expanding our health and safety systems across our organisation.
Reporting to the senior health and safety advisor, you will assist in managing and monitoring health and safety across the directorate, contributing to the annual audit programme as well as developing, reviewing and promoting directorate health and safety policies and guidance.
Working with managers and teams across the Council, head teachers and governors, you will provide practical advice and outcome focused solutions. An excellent communicator, with the ability to adopt a coaching style will be key to the role.
Initially, one of your key goals will be managing and expanding our traded offer to schools, developing and maintaining our external web pages and team SharePoint area.
So, as well as drawing upon your health and safety experience, you will need to demonstrate sound project management skills for this varied, exciting and stretching role.
To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
- You hold a NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent, in Occupational Health and Safety, with Technical membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, and a willingness to work towards graduate membership
- Strong IT skills using a range of different applications including MS Office and database management systems, with a proven ability to learn new applications.
- Experience and ability to write policy documents
- Experience and ability to develop and deliver training
- Experience in carrying out audits and inspections
- Ability to be creative and dynamic, with an innovative attitude to problem solving
- Able to communicate effectively, influencing both internal and external partners.
- Strong project management experience.
