Your role in our journey

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or school nurse) who can provide safeguarding expertise and knowledge both internally and externally to support the delivery of an effective integrated and co-ordinated system of communication. The role is to liaise between health professionals in community, hospital and with multi-agency partners to facilitate continuity of care for children, young people and families. The post holder will support the Designated Health representative’s by interpreting and sharing health information from a range of health providers that is necessary to inform multi-agency decision making in relation to children and young people in need of safeguarding in Barnsley.

You will participate in multi-agency risk assessments to inform safeguarding decision making, advising where necessary and challenging decisions when appropriate. Some functions of the role will include attendance at the MARAC meetings and attendance at multi-agency safeguarding meetings.

What you’ll need

To join us, you will need to be a Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) who can demonstrate substantial child protection experience. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, have the ability to constructively challenge when necessary and work effectively in a busy multi-disciplinary environment. You will need to demonstrate effective strategic and operational relationships with partner agencies, maintaining constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and specifically health professionals from a wide range of services and disciplines.

You need to be able to search for and collate health information from a range of NHS and Health sources including databases locally and further afield.  With due regard to patient confidentiality you will be responsible for interpreting and sharing information that is necessary to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child/young person.  There is therefore a high degree of professional autonomy and decision making regarding the safeguarding of children and families.

If you feel that have the skills and experience to undertake this role, we would be very keen to hear from you.
