COMMITTEE SERVICES OFFICER
If you are looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to be involved in the democratic process of a local authority, then this could be the role for you!
We are looking for a Committee Services Officer to join our team. Your role will be to support the Council’s democratic process, supporting a wide range of Committees, from the preparation of agendas; to the taking of minutes at meetings [which at the moment are all virtual using Zoom]; and offering an advisory service both to internal and external customers.
You will need to be able to demonstrate experience of working in a service-related office environment; an understanding of local government decision making processes; and an ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure. Effective communication and organisational skills are a must; as are strong ICT skills and the ability to take minutes by laptop.
In turn, we will offer development in the role to build knowledge and experience on the democratic process. We operate a flexible working scheme which applies to this role, allowing the 18 hours a week to accommodate the evening meetings that you would need to attend. The post is based at the Arun Civic Centre in Littlehampton, however, we are currently operating full-time home working due to the current pandemic restrictions.
This post has been identified as a Politically Restricted Post. Local authority employees holding politically restricted posts are disqualified from membership of any local authority, other than a parish or community council, from being a Member of Parliament or a Member of the European Parliament, and from membership of the Scottish Parliament or Welsh Assembly. They are subject to prescribed restrictions on their political activity through the Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990 (SI 1990/851). This includes canvassing.
