We are looking for a passionate environmentalist to help us respond to the Council’s recent Climate Emergency declaration, to improve environmental sustainability throughout the Council and in all the communities across South Derbyshire.

You will take a lead in developing and delivering the Councils Climate and Environment Action Plan, including co-ordinating the Council’s adaptations across all its activities. This will involve reducing carbon emissions from all Council activities to zero by 2030 and the delivery of all of the actions identified in our Staff Travel Plan. This will include reducing the impacts of our vehicle fleet and property assets, our leisure centres and our stock of nearly 3,000 residential properties.

You will also help engage with our local communities and our businesses to help the economy of South Derbyshire make a successful transition to zero carbon by 2050.

You will play a significant role in helping to adapt Council policy and procedure in areas such as planning, housing and environmental regulation to enable the district to continue its remarkable growth as sustainably as possible. 

The Council has been committed to environmental improvement and has held the ISO14001 Environmental management standard for over 10 years. You will contribute to maintaining and improving on these standards and will play an active role in auditing and other activities to meet the standard.

You must have a degree level qualification or equivalent, a good knowledge of the principles of environmental sustainability and the ability to influence and work collaboratively with others.
