Sitting under the Directorate for Communities and the Environment, the team at Williamson Park is focused on improving the site for the safety and well-being of our communities and also ensuring we consider the environmental impact in everything we do. We challenge ourselves to find ways of improving the biodiversity on the site, creating beneficial areas for wildlife that can also be enjoyed by local residents and visitors too.
As post holder your responsibilities will involve ensuring the safe and appropriate maintenance of the park’s grounds and facilities whilst promoting good environmental practice throughout. This includes minor repair work, litter picking, bin emptying, cleaning and painting as needed to ensure a high standard of public service is always provided. Alongside this, horticultural tasks include mowing, strimming, planting, hedge cutting, weeding, spraying, leaf clearing and more to further assist in the continual development and improvement of the site.
The role also includes assisting on various events including weddings, music festivals, outdoor theatre and culture community events.

For the role you should hold an NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture (or equivalent experience) and a full current UK Driving Licence is essential as you will be required to transport equipment around on and off site. Experience in basic maintenance work is desirable.
This post is permanent. The successful candidate would be required to work 37 hours over 5 days out of 7 including evenings, weekends and bank holidays in line with business need. You will be based in the grade listed grounds and facilities at Williamson Park. The site is 54 acres of park and gardens including 13 acres of managed woodland. The park also includes a café, gift shop, mini-zoo and butterfly house, situated adjacent to the beautiful Ashton Memorial. Williamson Park is set in the historic city of Lancaster, a vibrant city of music, culture with a buzzing community situated close to the beautiful Morecambe Bay and a short drive from the Lake District National Park.
Early last year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
