Hours of work: 24 hours per week (with potential to increase)
Working pattern: Part-time, Term-time only (working for 39 weeks per year plus 5.85 weeks annual leave, which will increase after 5 year’s continuous service)

About the role

The Executive Headteacher and Governors of East Hoathly Nursery are seeking to appoint a part time Nursery Assistant to join its fantastic team. East Hoathly Nursery nurtures and supports children from the age of 2yrs to 5yrs.

It is essential that you are highly skilled in the following:

Child Care qualification Level 2 or 3.

Excellent knowledge of the EYFS.

Highly skilled in recording observations.

Knowledge of child development.

Experience of key person record keeping.

Good oral and written communication skills

To be able to work well and integrate with the nursery/school team.

Demonstrate creative ability.

Ability to use initiative and work independently

Ability to manage your own workload.

Main Responsibilities:

•           Be part of an enthusiastic team

•           To be responsible for a key group of children, observe, assess, plan activities and keep their learning books up to date including planning and progress.

•           Monitoring the progress of your key group of children and sharing information about their development with their parents and/or carer.

•           Supervise activities

•           Read stories and provide activities to develop the children’s language skills.

•           To promote the philosophy of ‘learning through play’.

•           Supervise and engage in outside play.

•           To help children acquire self-help skills including dressing, feeding, toilet training and an awareness of personal hygiene.

•           Assist at lunch times – we have both hot meals and packed lunches.

•           To ensure all nursery policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to at all times.

•           Observe children and make notes for use in reports if key workers are absent.

•           Work to Early Years Foundation Stage standards on child learning.

•           To attend parents evenings/open days as required.

•           Make sure the children are safe and well at all times (safeguarding).

•           Report any concerns to your manager, such as signs of abuse.

•           Ensuring that all requirements for OFSTED and other legislative bodies are adhered to.

•           To work in partnership with the parents/carers about the day to day needs of the children

•           To attend staff and team meetings as appropriate.

•           To be aware of and comply with the Nursery’s Child Protection Policy, Confidentiality Procedures and other Nursery Policies.

•           To keep up to date with developments in childcare and parent education through regular training as appropriate.
