In response to financial challenges as a result of reduced funding, the Council has transformed the way it works. Rather than focus on cutting spending, we have reshaped the organisation to take a more commercial approach. This has enabled us to deliver efficiencies and improve performance. We are now in a strong financial position with a flexible, dedicated workforce delivering the excellent Council services that the residents of Newark and Sherwood deserve.
To support this approach we have created a new post; Sundry Debtor Officer. Reporting to the Assistant Business Manager - Financial Services, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive, high quality and proactive Sundry Debtor collection service by providing effective management of Sundry Debtor accounts and ensuring the Council maximises its income. This includes being responsible for proactively managing sundry debtor accounts from end to end; to ensure the effective recovery of funds, to pursue defaulters and make arrangements with them where acceptable and to proactively monitor compliance and take appropriate action where necessary. You will also provide information to, and liaise with, other Business Units regarding outstanding debts and disputed invoices as well as issue instructions to, and liaise with, the Council’s debt collection agency.
The successful candidate will have worked within a revenues service or similar environment previously (preferably within the local government sector), you will have a proven track record of successfully and proactively administering and progressing sundry debtor accounts to conclusion and have an understanding of the law and recovery processes relating to recovery of sundry debts. You will have good numeracy skills, be able to prioritise workloads and have excellent communication skills
We want to attract as wide a pool of talented candidates as possible and, where we can, will offer you flexibility in the way you work. We will consider suggestions for how the responsibilities of the role can be met through working different hours, days or in different locations. We may not be able to offer flexibility in every role, but where we can, we are happy to discuss options with you at interview.
Veterans/family of forces/ex-forces, those in care/care leavers, and candidates who declare a disability (as defined under the Equality Act 2010) will be guaranteed an interview provided they have demonstrated that they meet the essential criteria of the post as detailed in the Person Specification on their application form.
