About the role
We have a vacancy for a Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice at East Sussex County Council. We are looking for a self-motivated individual.
The role is in the Children's Services Communication, Planning and Performance division. Our administrators play a key role in supporting the Council. They help us to provide a better service to the people of East Sussex.
The apprenticeship will be fast-paced and varied. We will make sure you get all the training and support you need to succeed. We will offer a very supportive environment for you to learn and work in.
Your role will involve working independently and supporting a range of different teams. We will offer great support, a fantastic work/life balance with flexibility and brilliant staff benefits. Whilst working you will study and complete a Business and Administration Level 3 qualification. Once you qualify you will have highly transferable knowledge and skills.
In this role you will have the chance to work across many teams in the division. This includes:
- Children's Services Safeguarding Unit:
They ensure child protection procedures and policies are in place and are followed. There are statutory review meetings for looked after children. They also manage allegations against adults working with children and young people.
- Admissions and Transport:
They allocate places at mainstream schools. They also check eligibility for free school transport and administer free school meals.
- Organisational development:
The team are responsible for workforce development, communication and engagement. They support staff health and wellbeing. They also support teams making changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
- Information Governance:
This team supports both the department and schools to meet Data Protection requirements.
- Equality, participation and engagement:
They help children and young people have a say in planning and commissioning services. They manage the East Sussex Youth Cabinet and other youth voice schemes.
Usually you will work two days per week with the Safeguarding Unit and the other days with the other teams. You will work on specific tasks set by the team members, with time to complete the required coursework. You will have the chance to learn and train alongside experienced staff. You will gain experience in office administration using Microsoft Office to organise meetings and events, create reports and briefings. Through this apprenticeship you will gain the knowledge, skills and experience to take you forward to the next step of your career.
You will need:
- great time management skills to manage your own workload
- to be able to work on your own initiative, and to be happy to ask your colleagues when you have an issue or a question.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
