Working in Children’s Homes can offer you a rewarding and fulfilling career.  We are looking for people who are creative, playful and able to build meaningful relationships with our young people.  For the Senior Residential Worker Position, we would expect some experience of working in Children’s Homes.  However, if you feel you have the transferable skills, which can enhance the lives of our young people, then we would welcome your application and the opportunity to meet you.  You must have experience of working with children and an understanding of some of the complex issues faced by children in care. You will also need to have empathy, resilience and a good sense of humour!

Surrey Residential Homes accommodate children up to 18 years of age. All of our homes are inspected regularly by OFSTED and most have been judged as either ‘Good’, ‘Outstanding’ or are working towards this, therefore we are very proud of the quality of our residential services for children in Surrey.  As a result, we have continued to invest in our homes to provide a service that is ambitious, innovative and responsive to the needs of young people in our care.

As a Senior Residential Worker, you will:

  • Be-able to interact and build relationships with young people
  • Co-ordinate, promote and engage in activities with young people
  • Lead Shifts
  • Provide supervision and support to Residential Workers
  • Implement and monitor care plans for individual children
  • Maintain good communications and continuity of work practice within the home, and to a certain degree, manage your own workloads
  • Write reports
  • Role Model Good Practice at all times
  • Complete a level 3 NVQ/Diploma qualification within 2 years of your start date in this role 

    To be shortlisted to interview for these positions, your application will clearly evidence:

  • Good written skills
  • Ability and preparedness to recognise and deal appropriately with conflict
  • Awareness of the existence and effects of social disadvantage and discrimination
  • Aspirations to “make a difference” and  a view to practice in a restorative way
  • A positive, adaptable, confident, resilient and self-aware  approach to work
  • Leadership Skills
  • Minimum of two years’ experience of working with children or vulnerable groups
  • Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
  • A committed and flexible attitude

You will be enthusiastic, reliable and flexible in your approach to work as hours worked are on a rota basis. You will be prepared to work waking night shifts, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep in’s.

Surrey County Council Children’s Residential Home can accommodate children up to 18/19 years of age. Due to legal requirements set out by the DFE national minimum standards the successful applicant is required to be at least 4 years older than our oldest accommodated child.
