We are looking for a dynamic, resilient and innovative individual to join our highly motivated and effective team. We have two full time permanent positions available, plus one permanent one day per week post and one full time maternity cover position starting in June 2021.
As a Graduated Response Early Years Advisor within the Graduated Response Team the post holder will provide support and challenge to a range of early years providers including full daycare, pre-schools, maintained nurseries and childminders to promote equality and inclusion for children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).
The post holder will provide advice, guidance and support to empower Early Years SENCOs and practitioners to identify children’s needs early. You will ensure children are fully included and able to realise their potential and achieve their aspirations following a graduated approach in line with the SEN Code of practice. You will be expected to deliver training, complete visits to settings, conduct child observations and offer advice and guidance to providers regarding strategies, SEND processes and funding. You will be focusing on improving early identification in the early years sector, ensuring children get their needs met at the earliest possible stage in life.
The Graduated Response Team work with a range of multi-agency partners and stakeholders, therefore, the postholder will be expected to support a coordinated approach to ensure children’s needs are met at the earliest possible time and can access the EYFS curriculum.
Graduated Response Early Years Advisors act as mentors and positive role models to settings in Surrey. The post holder will be allocated a specific geographic area although Advisors will be expected to travel countywide as and when needed to support the local authority to meet its statutory duties. This includes early identification of needs and planning for children with SEND. The Graduated Response Early Years team focus on ensuring that there are sufficient expertise and experience amongst local early years providers to support children with SEND.
The post holder will report to the Senior Graduated Response Early Years Advisor in an allocated geographical area; however, it will be expected to work countywide according to demand.
Essential criteria for the role:
- Level 3 or above in Early Education and Childcare
- Experience of frontline delivery of early years education
- Experience of working with children with SEND in an early years setting
- Ability to be able to work with a range of internal and external partners including education, health and social care
- Experience in writing and delivering training and presentations
- Experience of leading and supporting others
- Experience of completing child observations and providing feedback
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Practice, Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted inspection framework
- The ability to work as part of a team
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures
- Knowledge of child development birth to five years
