This is an exciting opportunity to directly lead the Flood Risk management team alongside playing a key role in delivering the Council’s emerging green infrastructure strategy.
As a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) and a Coast Protection Authority (CPA), North Somerset Council are responsible for managing the risk of flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses as well as coastal erosion risk. As the Team Manager, you will have expertise and management skills to bring forward projects and deliver the LLFA and CPA priorities alongside the Council’s corporate plan.
The role is varied and exciting, with opportunities to manage both inland and coastal aspects of the authority’s work. You will be responsible for ensuring we meet our obligations under the legislative framework for flood and water management and coast protection within the unitary area and the delivery of innovative schemes to improve flood resilience. You will have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and be ready to lead, engage others and get the right outcomes for North Somerset. You will advise Members and Directors in respect of flood risk - commissioning projects, dealing with policy matters and sustainable drainage issues and engaging with partners in the promotion, communication and delivery of services.
The role sits within the wider Natural Environment Service where you will deputise for the Community and Environment Service Manager. You will contribute to the delivery of the green infrastructure strategy objectives so an interest in the wider environment is essential as will be demonstrating a multi-disciplinary approach to environmental management addressing biodiversity, access and parks management.

- Providing clarity, and management skills in delivering both projects and policies
- Meeting North Somerset’s responsibilities as an LLFA and statutory consultee on planning and sustainable drainage matters
- Meeting North Somerset’s responsibilities as a CPA
- Contributing to climate adaptation projects and programmes
- Deputising for the Service Manager
