About the role

Ringmer Primary and Nursery School is a one and a half form entry primary school positioned on the edge of the South Downs National Park, near Lewes. The school was extended in 2016 providing us with a wonderful learning environment; we are situated in fantastic grounds that promote multiple opportunities for outdoor learning and provide excellent access to sporting facilities.

Ofsted 2019: "Leaders place the well-being of pupils at the heart of the school. Staff are trained thoroughly to care for pupils and to look out for their best interests. Pupils in turn trust staff, and this creates a happy, respectful learning community."

We are looking for a Caretaker to work 3 hours a day (15 per week). We can offer flexibility on the hours worked eg: 6am until 9am or 7am until 10am.

The start date is 07 December and you will have a two week handover with our current caretaker.

You will be a friendly and caring person who can communicate easily with a wide range of audiences e.g. parents, governors, staff, pupils and contractors.

You would be responsible for:

* Opening the school daily for the arrival of staff, pupils and parents

* Ensuring the emergency opening and closing of school premises and grounds. Where possible, ensure access in the event of snow, flooding or other emergency situations.

* Inspecting, recording the cleaning contract provision and liaising with the contractors to ensure the building is fit for purpose on a daily basis

* Carrying out a daily site survey to ensure security and health & safety provision

* Completing weekly checklists on the site maintenance

* Undertaking daily caretaking tasks requested by staff and maintaining all interior and exterior areas to a high standard

* Carrying out non-specialist building maintenance work, e.g. plumbing, glazing, carpentry, decorating etc., where such work is agreed as being within the reasonable capacity of normal handyperson/DIY Skills with strict adherence to Health and Safety regulations.

* Maintaining the building cleaning standards in accordance with the Local Authority's building cleaning standards.  E.g. removing all internal refuse to the collection point, replenish consumable items such as soap and paper towels.

* You would be responsible for contacting the appropriate services in the event of emergencies, eg: fire, flood, break - in, vandalism

* Carry out the necessary duties where fire and security alarms are installed

* Assist with enquiries from East Sussex County Council and meet with suppliers and contractors accordingly

* Liaise with the office team to order stocks and supplies, and to replensish consumable items throughout the school as required

* Be able to keep accurate, current records of all Health & Safety and COSHH documents.

*You will need to manage your own workload by prioritising to meet deadlines whilst also ensuring that lower priority jobs are kept up to date.

*You will be able to work in an organised and methodical manner and have previous experience of completing property maintenance tasks.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations.
