Crosby High School is a 149 place 11-16 school for pupils with moderate learning difficulties/complex learning difficulties and physical disabilities. We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and committed teaching assistant (level 2) with a proven record of high quality support for children as well as an ability to offer quality personal care and pastoral support to children. Experience of primary practice and / or working with pupils with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
We are looking to appoint a teaching assistant with strong communication skills who recognises that the role of the TA is strongly linked to removing barriers for learning for our pupils. We are looking for a teaching assistant who can demonstrate a deep passion in relation to the education of pupils with Special Educational Needs as the focus of the school is firmly set on providing the very best education and support in every way for every pupil.
The post is very specific as we require a teaching assistant to support a Year 7 young lady who has a complex learning and physical profile; she has cerebral palsy and oromotor dystonia which means she has very limited control over her body movements, bladder or bowel functions. This student is tube fed in school via a mickey button. She uses an electric wheelchair, panda chair, standing frame and a walker. She communicates by using eyegaze technology on her Accent 1400 (a communication device), an alphabet chart, hand signals and eye contact. She requires full time support at all times.
This student is a lovely young lady who is always positive and sociable. She loves to communicate in any way she can but is gaining skills in using her AAC device and laptop and uses a variety of IT software programmes in order to record her work, including Clicker 7 for literacy and Splash for maths. She needs a great deal of support in all areas which requires two members of staff who can support her to be able to access all aspects of the curriculum as well as interpreting her wants and needs both academically and socially.
The successful candidate for this part time post will work under the direct supervision of the full time post holder as well as being fully supported and trained by them if needed. The successful candidate will be employed specifically for this individual pupil. A proportion of the support will involve lifting and handling as well as personal care, toileting and feeding. Training will be provided prior to commencement of the post. The post is a 5 day post the hours being 12.00pm to 3.30pm (17.5 hours per week) It is a fixed term post as part of a job share however is linked to the child and is reviewed annually so it is likely it will be extended.
