About the role

We are looking to appoint a strong and engaging teacher who is committed to delivering outstanding teaching and learning across Key Stage 2 that supports pupils to achieve their full potential. Our ideal applicant will exude a passion for Music which is evident in their day-to-day practice.

You will need to be organised, innovative and proactive to draw on the pupils’ interests to ensure progress is made. You should be creative in your lesson delivery, as you will be teaching a range of different ability levels and you should be prepared to commit to extra-curricular activities, as the school has a passion for music.

This is a great opportunity to join a successful Music department. All pupils at Ocklynge have Music lessons as a regular part of their curriculum.  There are many opportunities for practical music-making during lesson time, using percussion instruments, keyboards, ukuleles and other whole class sets of instruments.

We enjoy the luxury of a fully-equipped classroom with keyboards, glockenspiels, xylophones and ukuleles. Extra-curricular music activities form a key part of life at Ocklynge. There are a variety of activities available throughout the year as in school and after school activities, such as Harmony Choir, Combined Choir, Recorders, Marimba Magic, and Orchestra. We welcome several peripatetic music teachers from the music service who teach Violin, Cello, Flute, Clarinet, Brass and Keyboard. We also have   a private drumming teacher who teaches weekly.

There are several concerts each year involving a large number of pupils and the music department supports the year group performances that take place at the end of every long term.   Other concerts include the annual Christmas Concert and the leavers’ assembly. We are very keen to develop the singing across the school and incorporate it into every assembly whenever possible as well as the instrumental teaching and orchestra. Another key focus for music development is to engage more fully with the local community much more regularly.

Tours and visits to the school are strongly advised. If you require any further information about this role or wish to arrange a visit please do not hesitate to contact office@ocklynge.co.uk or 01323 725839.

If you decide to apply for this post, please use the information provided and your own expertise to complete the application form, which can be downloaded from our website at http://www.ocklynge.e-sussex.sch.uk/vacancies.html , and return to Mrs Barrow, Executive Assistant SDLT, at lbarrow@ratton.co.uk by the closing date.
