We are recruiting for a Markets Town Centres Support Officer to supervise and control the day to day requirements of markets operating in Medway and to ensure agreed operational procedures are followed and adhere too.
To monitor and review Security, Health & Safety, Food Safety, Trading Standards and any other issues that may arise within the market during the hours of operation.
Set up markets each morning, dealing with any issues that may arise. Taking decisions where a ‘no market’ is called due to adverse weather conditions. Manage procedures adopted when allowing ‘casual traders’ onto the market
Establish a good working relationship with stall holders and the business community, dealing with any problems that may arise. Provide guidance and support to new and existing traders to ensure markets continue to develop as key community assets.
Ensure Medway Market traders personal details are checked on a regular basis, including information of their trading name and evidence that they hold adequate Public Liability Insurance cover. Having excellent knowledge of the terms and conditions of trading and ensuring traders sign all relevant documentation.
Report all claims against stallholders, and issue licences to traders annually. Ensure risk assessments are carried out for each markets and complaints and accidents are recorded with the appropriate administration.
Maintain floor plans covering each Medway Market showing allocations and pitch numbers, ensuring agreed number and size of stalls for each market is not exceeded. Ensure stallholder pitches are sympathetically allocated to promote a positive relationship between High Street retailers and stallholders selling similar goods.
Monitor the quality, image and offer of products within the Markets to ensure optimum performance, and liaise with local enforcement agencies where appropriate. Ensure Market operates in a manner that will always allow adequate access for Emergency Services. Report any breach of Security, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene or Trading Standard regulations to ensure enforcement procedures are carried out by the appropriate authority.
Collect rents from stallholders on due dates, keeping accurate records of all transactions and following procedures set by Medway Council.
Send warning letters to traders when stallholders are in breach of the Market Rules & Regulations.
Implement complaints procedure to deal with any issues raised concerning the performance of Medway Markets from market traders, high street traders or the public.
To submit worksheet and briefing notes to the markets Manager for each market day, providing statistics of stallholder attendance, operational problems with any recommendations for improvement.
Assisting with Town Centre Forum meetings, arranging dates, venues, invites, preparation of papers, minute taking and progressing key actions.
Assisting Town Centre Managers by dealing with enquiries and resolving issues.
Supporting town centre promotional bookings and provide administrative support.
Reporting and monitoring on the town centres vacancy rates.
Supporting the town centre managers with the organisation of events, festivals and promotional initiatives.
To undertake other duties, considered by management to be with the scope of this post, as required.
