Public Health Evaluation Officer (Assistive Technology)
Location: Farnham House, Stevenage
Salary Range: £35,745 pa progressing to £39,880 pa (pro-rata for part time)
Contract Type: 18 months fixed term contract/secondment

Hertfordshire County Council’s Public Health team commissions a wide range of services to improve the health of Hertfordshire residents, including weight management interventions, sexual health services, NHS Health Checks, drug and alcohol treatment services, and health improvement for children and young people. We also work closely with other directorates within the organisation, as well as other partners in the wider local system, to improve health outcomes within Hertfordshire.
We are looking for an evaluation officer to work with the County Council’s Public Health directorate in evaluating the impact of the Adult Care Services Assistive Technology Programme.
We are looking for someone who will work with the Senior Public Health Evaluation Officer to design and conduct a robust evaluation to determine how Assistive Technology (AT) impacts Service Users, Family Carers and frontline staff (e.g. care agencies, social workers, occupational therapists and community care officers). The post holder will be familiar with both quantitative and qualitative methods, drawing on his/her specialist knowledge and experience of health/social care service evaluation. It is expected that the evaluation will determine the impact of AT on service users’ wellbeing and independence, its acceptability to the various stakeholder groups, as well as its cost-effectiveness.
The role will require proactive and effective joined-up working with a range of colleagues across the County Council (including the AT project team, finance, data analysts and data protection teams), the University of Hertfordshire, as well as close working with other members of the Public Health Evidence & Intelligence Team.
Skills and Experience
You will be expected to hold a minimum of a master’s degree in a related subject (or equivalent work experience) and have experience of formal research skills in both qualitative and quantitative methods.
You will be highly motivated, able to use your initiative when appropriate, and have a proven track record of working effectively in busy and varied roles. You will have the flexibility to work on a variety of different tasks at any one time, be able to prioritise your work and manage tight deadlines. In addition, you should have excellent communications skills (both verbal and written), have a high level of organisation and time management skills.
