The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of one of our Council Housing independent living schemes in the Lancaster district, based in Lancaster, Morecambe or Carnforth. The post available in Carnforth is a residential post, with a house available on the scheme for the successful candidate to rent.
All of our properties in the schemes are linked by intercom to the New Progress Lifeline service outside the Scheme Manager’s working hours.
You must be capable of demonstrating a sincere commitment to the wellbeing of tenants who are over 55 and have support needs. You need to have good organisational and social skills and be of a calm, patient disposition with the ability to respond quickly and efficiently in an emergency situation, whilst under pressure.
You will need to have both good written and verbal communication skills and be able to work well with other professionals and all members of the public.
An understanding of community care and the ability to deal with any situation, as and when it arises, in an efficient and effective way, is essential.
An understanding of housing issues and welfare benefits would be an advantage.
You would also need to be willing to provide cover for other Lancaster City Council independent living schemes and may be required to assist with the Council’s wider support for vulnerable households.
Earlier last year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to provide cover across the district. Reasonable adjustments can be made for those who are unable to drive due to a disability.
The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working Monday to Friday. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme, which applies to this post.
The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
