An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced housing professional to join the Council’s housing options team in delivering an excellent service to residents who are at risk of homelessness. This is a key role within the team; the successful candidate will require detailed knowledge and experience of implementing relevant legislation and guidance including the Homelessness Reduction Act. You will have demonstrable pro-active communication skills and the ability to work in partnership with other agencies to prevent homelessness, improve standards of service and share good practice.
An experienced team player with a passion for delivering an excellent housing advice service focussed on homeless prevention, you will have a minimum of two years’ experience working in a housing advice/homelessness role with detailed knowledge of the Council’s statutory duties. You will have excellent customer service and communication skills and a positive and pro-active approach to dealing with challenging issues. You will be experienced with dealing with members of the public, conducting interviews and making an assessment of often complex situations to find solutions. You will have a methodical approach and an eye for detail and the ability to deal empathically with customers who are sometimes emotional or confrontational.
You will demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and plan and manage your workload to meet deadlines, standards and targets. You will need a good working knowledge of current national housing policy issues, welfare reform and associated legislation and good practice.
