About the role

We are looking for a new member for our Estates Team at East Sussex County Council.  If you are willing to use, and develop, your skills to help deliver an effective and friendly service supporting the delivery of the County Council services we would like to hear from you.

We are looking for a, preferably, RICS qualified general practice surveyor with experience in delivering a service across asset and estates management functions, with a mix of acquisition, disposal, development, planning and landlord and tenant transactions. 

Your role will be focused on helping to manage the Council’s portfolio whilst identifying income and cost saving opportunities.  You will be involved in;

  • Providing advice and information to internal and external clients; 
  • Negotiating and managing commercial property transactions;
  • Working with the team, internal departments and external organisations to develop options for the Council’s mixed property portfolio;
  • Negotiating acquisitions and disposals and seeing through to completion;
  • Seeking new opportunities to provide the Council with income through their property assets;
  • Negotiating and instructing on property agreements of all types;

You will manage your own portfolio of cases and projects whilst working as part of our team. 

The job requires the ability to travel around the County, to areas sometimes limited with public transport so you will ideally have a full drivers licence and access to a vehicle.

At the present time the team are working from home.  In future flexible working (either working from home, the main office or one of our drop-in centres located across the County) is supported and encouraged where possible. A laptop and mobile telephone will be supplied.  

The post comes with an initial 23 days annual leave, local government salary-related pension offered, as well as access to our Wellbeing and Benefits offers.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
