Looking for a fresh challenge which involves working differently, being open to new ideas and being creative? We are ambitious in our plans to deliver innovative and effective services that put the customer at the centre of what we do, working in more flexible ways to understand how we can put the right support in the right place at the right time, to help people live the lives they want to live.
This is Adult Social Care’s statement of purpose – it’s why we exist. We are in the process of radically transforming the design of our services in order to deliver our purpose for our customers. We follow the principles of the Vanguard Method of System’s Thinking in order to achieve this. We recognise that if you put great employees into a poor system then the quality of service provided will also be poor. At Portsmouth City Council we’re all about developing our staff, because we want to build a bigger and better city but we need the best employees to do so. Following these approaches means our practitioners have a greater autonomy in managing their workloads. We have removed much of the bureaucracy that often prevents Social Workers from completing work that is truly valuable to the people they serve.
Your New Role
In this role you will assess the needs of vulnerable adults and their carers to identify creative and personalised ways to provide support using a strengths based approach to practice. You will work with complex and complicated needs in one of a number of client groups and will be committed to integration and successful outcomes for clients. You will triage cases when on duty and complete assessments under the Care Act, Continuing Health Care, Mental Capacity Act and Human Rights Act.
What you’ll need to succeed
You will need to have a qualification in social work, as well as a registration with Social Work England. In order to be successful you will need to have knowledge of the Care Act (2014) eligibility criteria and safeguarding legislation as well as having existing experience as a social worker. You will have excellent assessment skills and be able to cope with a case workload effectively and efficiently.
What you’ll get in return
As well as highly competitive pay you’ll receive all the benefits of working within a local authority organisation, which ranges from flexible working hours to a fantastic pension which allows you the opportunity to pay in more for that greater return. Annual leave starts at 26 days going up to 30 days for a full time equivalent post and staff discounts for travel and local shops are available. We are committed to supporting the development of our staff throughout their time with Portsmouth City Council through training and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) opportunities.
