Youth Justice Officer ( YJO)

Islington Youth Offending Service aims to prevent crime and the fear of crime by ensuring that services are targeted at children and young people in the criminal justice system while ensuring the needs of victims and our communities are taken into account in all that we do.
We are therefore seeking to recruit an experienced , enthusiastic and confident , YJO on a permanent basis. .
Successful applicants will have the skills to work effectively in assessing young people within a multi agency setting, to safe guard children and prevent re-offending whilst protecting victims and the wider public.
Candidates will need to demonstrate the capacity to work in a diverse ,densely populated borough and with a cohort of young people who display a complex range of needs.
These roles involve case management of youth sentences including, community disposals, bail and remand and custodial sentences.
It will be important to build effective and supportive relationships with young people, their families/carers and partners agencies.
The YJO's are required to complete accurate and thorough assessments using the Asset Plus system . They will also ensure that plans and interventions are coordinated ,innovative, creative and centred around the young person needs and risks. These roles involve providing written and oral reports to the Youth and Crown Courts and acting as Court Officer as required.
The successful applicant will hold a professional qualification in social work, probation, youth and community work, health , education OR have a relevant degree with appropriate experience of working with children and young people.
In addition, a knowledge of the legislation and policies surrounding youth justice as well as the theoretical base which underpins our practice such as Good Lives Model and Trauma informed work is paramount.
