The Role

The Fisheries Department has a vacancy for a Scientific Fisheries Observer position for one year in the first instance, with a start date from January 2021. Observers are required to spend periods of up to five weeks at a time at sea to collect biological and other data on fish and bird species, on board vessels fishing primarily in Falkland Island waters.

A previous experience as a Fisheries observer would be an asset, although other related marine biology experiences will be considered.

We are looking for an individual who is motivated, dynamic and independent. The applicant should have solid marine biology competences (species, sex and maturity identification, otoliths extraction) as well as data handling and report writing skills.

  • 50 days Annual Leave
  • Shared accommodation to rent when on land
