Stronger Communities Project Officers

The Stronger Communities Service within Barnsley Council, supports 6 Area Council areas across the borough, working with extensive networks of community groups, service providers and elected members to achieve innovative, sustainable solutions to meet the needs and priorities for each area. As well as a strong emphasis on front facing engagement, our work also relies on the need for good quality systems to underpin this, to help us to achieve cost effective, appropriate measures that will make a real difference to individuals, communities and to the future for Barnsley especially in the wake of COVID-19.

As a result, we have identified the need to recruit some additional Project Officers to support us with data analysis and research, financial systems and improving our learning from the impact of what we do.

We are looking for 5 project officers who have well development project management skills, good financial management skills, and will have a strong enthusiasm for finding new ways to help us measure and evaluate our service delivery. You will need to have the ability to communicate well with all members of the community as well as service providers, Elected Members and officers from within the Council and external partner organisations. You will enjoy researching and interpreting information and data and presenting this to a wide audience. You will also need to have a good understanding of funding processes including grant and commissioning systems and will need to feel confident to provide financial reports associated with these.

The 5 full time positions are based within the Area Teams across the six areas in Barnsley, however we will encourage flexible working and some duties may require a whole service approach working directly to the Head of Service for Stronger Communities.

The role will demand good organisational skills to be able to meet financial, contractual and other service and council led deadlines.  If you are interested in a role which is busy, innovative and will make a real difference in re-building stronger and resilient communities to keep Barnsley moving then this is the role for you.
