About the role
We are looking to recruit a Housing Needs Officer who will primarily be based in the Emergency Placement team which is part of the council's wider homelessness services.
This is an exceptionally busy team who have responsibility for finding emergency accommodation for households who are homeless and who the council has accepted a housing duty for. There is increased demand on the service because of the additional responsibilities that the council has undertaken due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The person that we are looking for will need to be able to work in a highly pressured environment and be able to work closely and effectively with other team members.
The successful candidate will be expected to have an understanding of the difficulties that people face when homeless, be able to communicate calmly and effectively and demonstrate an empathetic approach . Such an approach is essential when dealing with people who may be distressed, angry and sometimes displaying challenging behaviour.
Other duties may include inspecting emergency accommodation properties, reporting on and resolving disrepair and other problems that residents may be experiencing. It is also essential that careful records are maintained of all work undertaken.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System.
