The Environment, Transport & Infrastructure (ETI) directorate is responsible for a wide range of services including highways, transport, planning, countryside and waste management. These services are critical for people living, working and travelling through Surrey, delivered by the county council or in partnership.
About the Team
The Countryside Commissioning Team is a newly created team within the Environment, Transport & Infrastructure (ETI) directorate. The team play an important role in enhancing the services provided on the Countryside Estate.
About the role
As a Countryside Commissioning Visitor Improvements Officer, you will play a crucial role in using the Council’s commissioning-based approach to visitor services on the Countryside Estate. You will be an integral part of the team and responsible for implementing a capital programme, to install amenity improvements on our countryside estate and co-design additional services with stakeholders to broaden the current visitor base.
This is an exciting challenge for a highly motivated individual with a "can-do" attitude. To be shortlisted for an interview for this position, your application and supporting statement will clearly evidence:
- Proven experience in delivering countryside management projects and reporting progress to funders
- Detailed and up to date knowledge of land management legislation and issues.
- Good understanding of visitor engagement and countryside management.
- Excellent understanding of project management, including costing, effective management of contractors and financial control.
- Ability to work flexibly on a range of tasks.
- Ability to work independently, but also as part of a wider team.
- Be both approachable and committed to delivering excellent customer service.

The Countryside Commissioning Team within the Environment, Transport and Infrastructure (ETI) directorate at Surrey County Council (SCC) is seeking to appoint a Visitor Improvement Officer. This position is for 36 hours a week and is based at Merrow Lane, Merrow, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 7BQ.
This is a 2 year fixed term contract or secondment.
