Creativity, ambition and a focus on people. That’s what matters at Barnsley Council. Our award-winning council is on an exciting journey of change. It’s all about putting local people at the heart of everything, listening to and doing good for our communities. We’re now more innovative, more efficient and provide better value for money.

Shape a better future with us

We’re thrilled to have achieved Investors in People (IIP) Gold status for how we lead, support and develop people. Now we’d like you to be part of our success and help us take change further. Join us on our journey to a brighter future. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. Let’s make a better Barnsley for everyone.

Your role in our journey

To ensure the continued provision of high-quality Health Visiting and School Nursing (Public Health Nursing) services in Barnsley and to achieve our ambition of becoming a national beacon for Public Health Nursing services we are looking to attract an experienced and self-motivated individual to lead the development, monitoring and evaluation of Clinical Governance and inspection frameworks for the Public Health Nursing Service to ensure a 'whole system' approach to quality, safety and governance. Your role is very important in providing assurance that our services are compliant, safe and delivering high-quality care. The successful candidate will need to be able to build strong relationships with staff and stakeholders to ensure that the service achieves key outcome targets whilst maintaining the highest quality of care for our service users.

What you’ll need

To join us, you’ll need to be a Registered Nurse with a degree and with experience and understanding of driving quality assurance processes within health care and /or across a multi-agency partnership. The post holder will support the development of a culture across the Public Health Nursing workforce which values continuing professional development and strives for excellence in the delivery of good quality care. You will be responsible for managing risk, clinical audit, clinical effectiveness and service user experience. The post holder will need to develop, create and manage robust systems and processes and have the ability to compile analytical reports in relation to clinical governance and quality, which underpins safe clinical practice. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about Public Health and improving outcomes for children, young people, families and communities.

A lot to look forward to

Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do.   Our Public Health Nursing Service is at the forefront of providing care to our children, young people and families and we are currently on a journey of re-designing the service which we hope will become a truly integrated service that works in partnership with other children’s services and becomes a beacon of good practice at both regional and national level.

Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to access the NHS Pension Scheme if they are already a scheme member.
